Our History
In 1991, Anita Mims and Gretchen Russell encouraged Marvin Mims St. to form a baseball team in the Frayser Tee-Ball Association.
In 1992, Pastor J.C. Bachus, sanctioned St. Mark Baptist Church to participate in the Frayser Tee-Ball Association. Rev. A. L. Casey, an associate minister with St. Mark, endorsed being a philanthropist and spokesman for our organization.
In 1994, Tyrone Taylor and Marvin Mims Sr. jointly organized a team in the Memphis Park Commission league. This team was known as the St. Mark Midgets and comprised of 9 & 10 year old boys.
In 2016. B.O.L.D. Brothers helped lead to the formation of B.O.L.D. Sisters.
We have ministered to over 500 boys in the Memphis Community.
Our organization has sponsored trips to major U.S. cities with our young men, traveling to Tampa, FL, Cincinnati, OH, Atlanta, GA and St. Louis, MO.
In 1999, Patrick Bachus became the head coach of one of our three baseball teams. Over the years we have benefited by the assistance of many parents, serving as coaches, scorekeepers and fans. This has contributed immeasurably to our success.
In 2016, B.O.L.D.Brothers organized a basketball league at St. Mark girls and boys ages 4-15 with the assistant of board member Will Bryson Jr.
While we stress our success is not measured in terms of winning or losing, promoting a winning philosophy builds self-confidence. Yet, we model losing with dignity, pride and sportsmanship. In short, we believe our success on the field is carried off the field.
Founded by Marvin Mims Sr. and Tyrone Taylor, the organization first meeting was held on September 24, 2001.
